GRACE.

By E H Sugden

What is grace?  It is the power of the Holy Spirit in the heart of believers enabling us to do God’s will.  Here there is power enough to do anything good.  Let us imagine a great sailing yacht filled with people lying in harbour near the shore.  The strength of all those within the yacht and of all those watching her upon the land is completely powerless to get her going.  She must depend upon the power of the wind, or her engine, or the rising of the tide to get her to her destination.  So also as believers, if we are to live a Christian life we must have the power of the Holy Spirit.  But is it possible that a man or a woman, even a little child, may have this power from God in their heart?  Yes, God can send this to us, as easily as light comes from the distant sun.  This is the great and blessed news of the Gospel.  None of us need to worry about how we will do the will of God.  With the Holy Spirit all of us are able to do anything that God calls us to do.

THE EDITOR’S LETTER.

Dear Friends,

The theme of this issue is “Streams of Grace”.  Grace is the power of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life enabling them to be an overcomer.  In John 1 v16 we read that, “out of His fullness we have all received grace in place of grace”.  The Lord has provided us with grace upon grace, blessing upon blessing, favour upon favour and power upon power to celebrate the Christian life with thanksgiving and praise for our dear Saviour’s triumphant death on the Cross.  The selected articles cover the work and power of Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.

It is surely a great and exciting promise that our heavenly Father has given us His Spirit as a seal until the day of resurrection. This same Spirit gives life to our earthly bodies and allows each of us to have an intimate relationship with the Lord.  What a priceless gift He is to the believer.

In Christ,

Mark
