Who SHALL SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST?

By R. M. McCheyne

Imagine the Apostle Paul looking at all the judges of the world, all those who are skilled in law.  He then looks upward to the holy angels whose superhuman sight can see far into the righteous government of God.  He further looks up to God, the judge of all, who must do right and whose ways are perfect righteousness.  And he asks, “who shall condemn us?”  It is Christ that died and Christ has paid the great cost to buy us back.  So that every judge must cry out, “there is now no condemnation” because of the Cross.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”  Again, Paul looks around the visible and invisible worlds.  He looks at the might of the mightiest archangel, the satanic power of gangs of devils, the rage of a God-hating world and the united forces of all created things, and when he sees sinners folded in the arms Jesus, he cries “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”  Not all the forces of ten thousand worlds combined, for Jesus is greater than all.  “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”.

THE EVERLASTING TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL.

By the Editor

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” (Romans 5 v5).

The Gospel of Christ Jesus makes the believing man or woman free.  Grace is given to us for a reason, and the reason is love.  Love conquered death and sin in the victory of the Cross.  Love found a way to save lost humanity where there was no other way.  Love’s justice was the Cross and it was a free gift of salvation through the death of the beautiful Saviour.

In reverent awe the believer stood before the King-of-Kings and, as He spoke, his whole being quivered.  The love of Christ consumed him until he could live no more without it being part of life day by day.  Everlasting light became his only goal now, to see the Lord’s glory appear around the world, for broken souls to know God more and for Christ’s light to be spread into the hearts of humanity everywhere.  This is the experience of the believer touched by the love of Christ.

The victory of the Cross was the triumph of love for broken souls such as us.  How can anyone deny such a love for you and I?  The Cross is an everlasting theology of hope for the nations.  A veil was torn in two and the mystery of the Cross of Christ was revealed, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1 v27).  The separation was gone and His victory overcame death and Hell.  Love shone its light at Calvary.

A prayer of the grateful heart,

I love you Lord, for you formed my frame.

I love your Lord, for your glorious name.

I love you Lord, for you are my friend.

I love you Lord, to the bitter end.

I love you Lord, who set me free.

I love you Lord, how kind you are.

I love you Lord, who gives hope.

I love you Lord, who is always with me.

I love you Lord, who only can satisfy.

Give to me this day, Father, a loving kindness as only you can give.  For only you can satisfy my longing heart.  Oh what a privilege to know you.  Come and set me free by your Holy Spirit.  Rest on me that I may preach well the truth of the Cross to my neighbours and my friends.

“May we be bound together in the fire of Divine Love!”
Catherine of Sienna

“Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps not record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”

Paul the Apostle (1 Corinthians 13 v4-6)

“As the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you.  Now remain in my love”
The Lord Jesus Christ (John 15 v9)
