DAY 27

Romans 1:1-4

“The gospel of God - the gospel He promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding His Son, who as to His human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God, by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Love’s redeeming work was done! Now it was time for God to give a once-for-all, infallible sign that the One who died on the cross was truly His Son. The Lord had performed many notable miracles during His earthly ministry but the critics were never satisfied and were always demanding more signs. Here was the final seal of God the Father on the work of His Son, GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD!

The grave could not hold Him. The little band of soldiers posted to prevent trickery were powerless. The stone with the High Priest’s seal was futile. Not even Satan and all the powers of darkness could thwart Almighty God. His intention was to raise His Son from the cold, dark grave and that was inevitably what happened.

The Jewish authorities must have been in total despair. They thought the problem was over and they knew that one sure way to stop all this nonsense about Jesus rising again was to produce the body. We can be sure that urgent searches were initiated but obviously all such enquiries were doomed to failure. There was no dead body to be found.

The Lord appeared to His disciples on several occasions and they knew that He was alive. Luke’s description of this in Acts 1:3 leaves us in no doubt. Speaking of the disciples, he said, “To whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by MANY INFALLIBLE PROOFS, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” This, of course, sets the Lord apart from every other religious leader. As we see above, HE IS DECLARED TO BE THE SON OF GOD BY THE RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD. Our faith in Him is secure!

When John was on the Isle of Patmos, he had a vision of the glorified Saviour and recorded the details in the first chapter of the book of the Revelation. One point about the glorified Saviour is that “His voice is as the sound of many waters.” Imagine the sound produced by a roaring sea or Niagara Falls. That was the voice John heard saying,

“I AM HE WHO LIVES, AND WAS DEAD, AND BEHOLD, I AM ALIVE FOREVERMORE.”
